Gianluca Rapone

Gianluca has been with FMDC since 2017, where he is an Associate Facade Engineer with over 12 years of experience in the façade industry. Before moving to London, he successfully completed a PhD in Italy which focussed on the optimisation of façade design for energy savings and comfort, which granted him a strong background in building envelope physics and environmental design.

In recent years Gianluca has become passionate about sustainability, which has led him to investigate the role of façades in reducing both the operational and embodied carbon of buildings.  Besides leading FMDC’s building physics and sustainability efforts, he is active in the construction industry, collaborating, writing, and presenting on low carbon envelope design. In the recent past he has worked on a number of high-profile projects for FMDC, including One Park Drive, Chelsea Barracks Phase 4, and 2 Trafalgar Way, to name a few.

Gianluca’s confidence and ability in the technical aspects of facade engineering, coupled with his strong knowledge of building physics and low carbon design, allow him to be particularly insightful in early project stages where options are compared, and key decisions are taken. 

In his spare time, Gianluca gets great enjoyment from exploring art exhibitions, playing records from his vinyl collection, and going to concerts.
