Shaftesbury Avenue Theatre Fly-tower Extension

FMDC were employed as sub-consultants to Bennetts Associates Architects, to provide technical support in the design, specification and realisation of a new fly-tower extension to the grade 2 listed, Shaftesbury Avenue theatre in London’s West End.
The envelope was clad in weathering-steel, creating a striking modern contrast to the existing building terracotta and adjacent buildings faience and brick facades.

The theatre remained fully operational throughout construction, with completion aligned with the opening of the blockbuster show, Motown, in 2016.  The development won London and National RIBA awards in 2018 and a Civic rust award in 2017.

This project was an early FMDC collaboration with Bennetts, which has grown into many (often as sub-consultants), since 2013, which notably include: The Midland Goods Shed and T2 at Kings Cross, the London Fruit and Wool Exchange, and Jaguar Land Rover at Gaydon, as completed projects.
