One Southbank Place

One Southbank Place is a new-build office, designed by Squire and Partners Architects for developer Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd (CWCL) in a JV with Qatari Diar.
The massing is conceived as a series of stepped volumes, linked by double height glazed atria.

The façade design draws upon the materials and proportions of the existing Shell Tower and nearby Portland stone buildings such as the Royal festival Hall.

The building provides new office floor plates connected to the original 1950s building by glazed link bridges.

The fair-faced precast scope was designed and delivered by Techrete, employing a ‘beam and post’ type methodology, to achieve the double and triple height punched openings in the elevations.

Completed in 2018, the project is located near Waterloo station, an iconic location on the south bank of the Thames and with its adjacent neighbour, the KPF designed Two Southbank Place, one of our first buildings for Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd, which has since grown to many other appointments.
