Gresham St Pauls

Gresham St Paul’s (aka Garrard House), is a heavy ‘cut and carve’ refurbishment and extension project, completed in 2021, for developer Stanhope. Wilkinson Eyre were architects for the project, which upgraded and created a new NIA in the late 1990’s SOM designed City block.
The facade is Portland clad, with punched windows. FMDC were engaged from early in the design process to support the process and retained through to completion of works on site in a CMT capacity.

Additional NIA was created by infilling re-entrant corners to the original massing and internal atria, and adding a new floor on top, with some remodelling of lower floors.  Mace were Main Contractors for the project, with GIG appointed as glazing sub-contractor.

The decision to extend and refurbish rather than demolish and rebuild saved a significant quantity of CO2 which was a major driver in the scheme throughout. Existing window frames were retained with new double-glazed units, beads and gaskets installed, rather than wholesale system replacement, again to save cost and Carbon.
