Fen Court

Fen Court is a new 15-storey office building, in a prominent City of London location, designed by Eric Parry Architects for Italy’s largest insurance company, Generali.
The building has retail at low-level and a publicly accessible roof garden. and was completed in 2018 by Main Contractor Sir Robert McAlpine.

FMDC were engaged from an early design stage, as direct sub-consultants to the architect, with involvement continuing post-contract, through submittals reviews, factory visits, witnessing of testing and site inspections.

The façades were executed in narrow format unitised curtain walling, by Façade Sub-contractor Gartner, with the typical facades employing white glazed extruded terracotta in opaque areas, produced by NBK. The upper levels of the building employ a Closed Cavity Façade (CCF) construction, which minimises solar gain in peak periods by deploying blinds integral to the system, and allows stunning views of the City, when external conditions allow, and the blinds are not deployed.

The massing of the upper level ‘crown’ is triangulated and crystalline, employing stripes of coloured dichroic glazing to create dramatic and playful effects on the floorplate and externally.

Fen Court is an early FMDC collaboration with Eric Parry Architects, which has since continued to many other projects, and has grown from a strong past relationship with the practice, built when one of our Founding Directors, Simon Webster, was employed in a previous practice.
