Chelsea Barracks Phase 4 (Stone)

FMDC were involved in a number of buildings in the redevelopment of the large 12.8 acre site, previously housing Chelsea Barracks.
Phase 4 comprises buildings 6, 7 and 8, which are all 6-stories high, with further 2-storey penthouses set back at high level.

The buildings are arranged around a private courtyard in the centre of the masterplan, with building 7 considered to be the most prestigious in the entire development, as it fronts Chelsea Bridge Road.

Our geologist were heavily involved in material selection, specification and procurement from the outset. We visited quarries, undertook range sample inspections and specified and witnessed impact testing, to verify performance.

The masonry build methodologies varied with elevation and building, and included both stone-faced precast (by Decomo) and areas of hand-set construction (by Szerelmey).  A Portuguese limestone was selected for the project, which was a good visual match for Portland, seen in many historic buildings in the Belgravia area.

Our geologists were also engaged in a stand-alone stone consultancy appointment on Phase 3 of the masterplan, and also for the interior fit out on building 6.  Building images are by Dirk Lindner Photography.
