Cambridge Welding Institute

The Cambridge Welding Institute development is 3 new buildings located in a highly successful Science Park, incorporated into a larger masterplan.
The low-rise buildings house amenity operations, an education facility, an engineering hall, heavy and light engineering laboratories and office accommodation.

Eric Parry were architects for the project, employing FMDC as sub-consultants, in the first collaboration between practices, following the formation of FMDC in 2013, which has since grown to many other successful buildings.

The project is thought to be the largest terracotta installation in the UK and was completed in 2015, securing an RIBA East award and a RIBA national award in 2017. Our involvement included some design input, a review of the Architect’s specification, a review of the Visual Mock-Up on site and other ad-hoc technical support.
