Cadence, Kings Cross

Cadence, AKA King Cross S5, is a mixed-use building designed by Alison Brooks Architects.
Occupying a prominent location on Lewis Cubitt Square in the heart of the Kings Cross Central development by developers Argent, the building comprises three stepped blocks of residential units above a six-sided, double height podium of commercial and amenity spaces.

The cladding comprises brick-faced precast concrete panels with punched windows by Explore Manufacturing and forming double height arches in front of stick curtain walling at ground level on Canal Reach and on the podium internal courtyard.

The use of brick arches extends to the top of the development, forming a crown of covered terraces to the residential blocks.

The building provides a strong focal point on the axis of Lewis Cubitt Park and also acts as a beacon on the North side of the Kings Cross Central development, creating a gateway into Kings Cross Central from York Way and onto Canal Reach.

FMDC’s involvement in the project started at early design stages, and through to completion in a Client Monitoring Team capacity to Argent during the construction stages, with Laing O’Rourke as Main Contractor.
