Interesting article in the Architectsjournal on the reuse of stone on 81 Newgate Street by KPF architects.
FMDC Ltd‘s contribution in our capacity both as façade engineers and geologists was key to make stone reuse happen on this project. The stone reuse journey started with FMDC Ltd carrying out surveys of the existing facades, determining the existing stone sizes and matching them to the stone layout of the new facades, specifying appropriate stone testing to mitigate reuse risks, identifying the existing stone types and matching the existing limestone to new stone from PORTLAND STONE FIRMS LIMITED. This idea is gaining traction and we are currently reusing stone from existing buildings on three new projects.
