One Park Drive

One Park Drive (aka Wood Wharf A1) is a residential tower designed by signature Architects Herzog & de Meuron, for Canary Wharf Contractors, located in the south-west corner of Wood Wharf.
The 57-storey tower is 205m high, is cylindrical in shape and was completed in 2022. FMDC were engaged in the project from early design stages, through to completion on site.

The tower is divided into 4 discrete typologies – the ‘lofts’ at low level, the ‘cluster’ at mid-level and the ‘bays’ at upper levels and ‘sky gardens’ at the top of the tower.

The façade was realised in unitised curtain walling by German sub-contractor Schneider and employs white glazed terracotta by NBK in opaque areas. One Park Drive was on of FMDC’s first projects at Wood Wharf, which has since grown to include other residential towers and lower rise buildings.

The offset balconies were an important element of the visual form, but created challenges in maintaining envelope thermal continuity, and in terms of construction and weathering.  These were resolved employing complex 3d junctions, developed with the sub-contractors.  Accommodation of structural movement and tolerances were challenging, driven by floorplate rotational changes up the tower.

Extensive impact testing was undertaken on the terracotta, to give confidence in robustness for use on a high-rise tower application.  One Park Drive won ‘Best Large Housing Scheme 2002’ at the New London awards.
