18 Hanover Square

18 Hanover is a new high-quality 9 storey office, built over the entrance to the new Elizabeth line station.
Its was designed by Liftshutz Davidson Sandilands (LDS) for developer Great Portland Estates (GPE), and was completed in 2021. Mace were Main Contractors for the project, with FMDC engaged as facade consultants from early design stages, through to completion on site, with a compliance monitoring role.

The facade materiality includes hand made bricks and Portland limestone, incorporated into a precast construction methodology, which saw windows pre-glazed off-site into donut panels, which were installed by tower crane, thereby negating the need for external access.

Grants were precast sub-contractors, with Austrian sub-contractor GIG providing the glazing and metalwork scope. The site is located on the new west side of Hanover Square, with the elevations stepping back at higher levels to create terraces and to reduce the visual impact of the massing.

The project was our 2nd significant collaboration with LDS, which has since grown to others, and another with GPE, who have appointed FMDC as their facade consultants on challenging schemes for many years.
